So many days we simply go through the motions, and before we know it, the day is done. What did we accomplish? Did we make a difference to anyone on this day? Did we really live this day to our fullest?
Some days, the things that made us so happy and excited in days past are now just routine and unexciting. They have lost their luster of “newness” and we no longer consider them as important. It could be a job, a relationship, a possession, a talent…whatever it may be, it no longer grabs us.
One thing each of us can do at the end of the day is a little cliche, but it is this: Count Your Blessings. What was it about the day that you can be grateful for? Make a mental list, or better yet, start a journal and write it down. That way when you have a day that is hard to be thankful for, you can take a look back at all the things that are being covered up by the hardships of the present.
Don’t simply look for the big things like a job promotion, an engagement, a new home, etc. Look for the seemingly small things like a beautiful sunrise, a smile from a stranger, a song that touched your heart…those small things are what makes turns “just living” into being ALIVE! They are the things that make us feel and smile or cry. They matter most.
I once read that we should each write our own obituary when we are healthy and strong. Be honest. Read it back. Are you happy with what you see? Did you really live your life to its fullest? If not, it’s not to late to make some changes.
Do it now…tick tock.
